Dawson’s Ink Presents… MARCH MADNESS!

Posted by Will On March - 5 - 2010

March is Women’s History Month, and with a hat tip to the college basketball tournament that takes place each year, we’ve decided to celebrate all month long with our version as

Dawson’s Ink Presents… MARCH MADNESS!

Except…instead of b-ball taking center stage, we’re flipping the script and honoring our favorite ladies of R&B from across the world. That’s right, this year R&B stands for Rhythm & Brackets! So if you’ve ever wondered what would happen if 32 of your favorite female singers went head-to-head in a single elimination battle to be the best, this is it.

Here’s how it’ll work: There will be eight (8) singers each in four divisions, and all will be representing the part of the world where they were born, or where they currently dwell. Over the course of the next four weeks, songs from the artists will be matched up, with the winners chosen by YOU and YOUR VOTE. Here’s how the divisions break down geographically:

EAST –WHITNEY HOUSTON DIVISION (Newark, New Jersey)

SOUTH –NINA SIMONE DIVISION (Tryon, North Carolina)

MID/WEST –ARETHA FRANKLIN (Detroit, Michigan) /ETTA JAMES (Los Angeles, California) DIVISION

INTERNATIONAL –LISA STANSFIELD DIVISION (Heywood Lancashire, England)

The ladies will all be seeded, with #1 taking on #8, #2 dueling #7, #3 tangling with #6, and #4 & #5 going toe to toe. Each Monday, we’ll focus on the EAST.

Tuesdays belong to the SOUTH.

Thursday is MID/WEST day.

Friday is all about our INTERNATIONAL lovelies.

Wednesdays and the weekend will be reserved for voting, with EACH VOTE COUNTING toward choosing the #1 SINGER IN THE WORLD.

Madness, right? American Idol got nothing on us! Heh.

The only criteria for the ladies is that either they had to have released an album or mixtape over the past year, or WILL BE releasing an album or mixtape in the coming months. That’s it. Seedings were not determined scientifically, yet will undoubtedly warrant some great matchups. Oh, and if your favorite artist didn’t make this year’s list due to time constraints, please let us know and we’ll gladly consider them for next year’s event in what we hope will be a yearly friendly competition.

MONDAY, in celebration of Women’s History Month, IT’S ON! Round ONE of the first-ever

DAWSON’S INK Presents… MARCH MADNESS!

Every DAY and every VOTE counts!

Are you down? Say yes.
