50 Word Fiction Friday: The Moments

Posted by Will On February - 26 - 2010

Hopefully, by now you know how this all works. On any given Friday, I attempt to come up with a few stories (usually four), each made up of 50 words. The catch? They’re all fiction. All. Of. Them. Then, I challenge you to do the same. Deal? OK, cool.

Let’s GO!
——————————
He made the painful decision to stay away, thinking she was unattainable. Unapproachable. Never realizing that she felt the same way for him, that she was waiting for so long for him to make a move. Now, it was too late. She was now spoken for. He was now speechless.
——————————
This was definitely her time. Everything was falling into place. She worked hard. Loved harder. Her well-earned promotion to the company’s top spot put her in a position of ultimate power. Men loved her. Ladies admired her. Only, none of it made her happy. She struggled mightily with her success.
——————————
It was the longest trip he’d ever have to take. Back to the house where he was raised. The one from which he tried so hard to run away. Ultimately, he couldn’t. He went back to care for his ailing mother. He sat on the plane, lost in the memories.
——————————
Her voice? Ethereal. Delicate. Heavenly. If she nailed this audition, her life would change. Which meant a new life for her. Her family. Sadly, the wear and tear from the long week of rehearsals rendered her hoarse. No voice. One chance. Her turn. She stepped to the microphone. And prayed.

Your turn… whatcha got? :)

3 They All Said

  1. Miz Says:

Okay, i’ll give it a try, but i didn’t know what criteria you were going by, bc this seems like more than 50 words. My 50 words only yielded a couple of sentences at first. But you let me know…i may be under on this one. Here goes. BTW i love writing challenges it really gets my creative juices to flow. My story:

Their affair was one for the record books. 1 hour and 20 minutes later she was wrapped in 400 thread sheets with him by her side.

“Richard”, she asked. “Where did you come from?” She meant to be rhetorical, even whimsy, but a part of her knew her question was real, and she wanted a real answer.

    “Out of your dreams…”

She laughed, played with her hair. Cute, but not what she wanted to hear. She wanted to hear tall tales of him traveling the seas to find her, about him crossing valleys. Yeah she was quite the romantic and yet very practical.

Her mind flashed to their meeting. The cursory glance. The hello.

    “I’m Rachel.”

Serendipity at play and she was more than ready. Her divorce was finalized on that day. She carried the weight of it into the elevator and expected to break down and cry at any moment, but instead she smiled. She smiled at the most handsome stranger she had ever met. She was in love.

Miz! These are great. I usually do four different stories, at 50 words each. I like yours. :)

  3. Deedie Says:

She would not forgive him. He knew it. He wanted to say good bye. He wanted say “I’m sorry” once more. He craved to hold her close, inhale her scent, breath her air. He wanted to leave a lit passage way in case she should return. He wanted, her.
