On the heels of a another successful March Madness, where we featured a LOT of the old school R&B we grew up on, we’ve decided to make this month all about the new–events, music, shows, personal posts. . .you name it, and it’ll probably be up here as part of our ALL NEW APRIL.
——————————————–
First up is a very cool event taking place in NYC Sunday, April 15th called Soul Excursions, brought to you by The Progressive Movement, which was founded by tastemakers Chaka Wilson and Fred Ness Gaymon. The two music industry heavyweights are putting their years of expertise and relationships to good use, combining some of the city’s most intimate venues with artists that exude a soulful sound.
The Movement partnered with fellow music enthusiast Rich Johnson, who launched the wildly successful Rock Paper Soul series in 2011, for this latest event, which will take place at the Millisime Salon, located inside the Carlton Hotel on Madison Avenue, and feature the intimate stylings of Jesse Boykins III. (Or as we at the Ink refer to him, Ladies Love Cool Tre.) Excursions will be hosted by the lovely, talented singer/songwriter She-Salt, with music by DJ Armstead and DJ A.C.L.–making this a MUST-SEE Sunday night showcase.
Doors open at 6pm. Showtime is 8pm. Oh, and did we mention that there’s no cover charge?!?! Yup.
If you’re in town, you really NEED to be there. It’ll be a cool way to mellow out from a stressful Tax Day, and a wonderful Spring date night in the greatest city in the world. As the Movement says, they’re not trying to necessarily change the game, they just want you to be able to slow down and listen to life. Boom.
