I‘ll admit, we’ve been Facebook friends for years, but I never really did my due diligence and made my way to Philly to check the lovely singer/songwriter Lydia Rene live and in person. Man, am I missing out!
During a recent performance at the Tin Angel, the self-proclaimed ‘piano chick’ made her audience smile when she flipped two Rihanna songs into a subtly done masterpiece. The songs (“What’s My Name” and “The Only Girl In The World”) sound soooo much better in Lydia’s hands, making it an unforgettable cover. Made me almost want to go out and purchase them. Almost.
I passed on that, but definitely pressed play several times to listen to this talented artist. Make sure you go check out her Youtube page. It’s a must. Trust me, you’ll like it so much, you’ll go to her Facebook fan page and like that, too. Boom. See the performance below, and recognize–ALL NEW APRIL is in full effect.

Lydie René is our generation’s female Quincy Jones (minus the “We Are the World” curfuffle). Heh.
