Community: ‘Paradigms In Human Memory’
There have been plenty of brilliant moments over the lifespan of the NBC comedy Community. From the Season One episodes about the ‘Godfather’-inspired chicken finger ring, or the birth of Troy and Abed in the Morning, and the first paintball romp, to Season Two’s KFC-flavored space shuttle episode, or the episode where Abed delivered a baby, and the ‘Dinner With Andre’ tribute, it’s been a wild and wacky ride with the students of Greendale Community College.
There’s one episode, however, that really stuck with me after it aired. Made me watch it several times to catch everything that was packed into it. It aired in April with the title “Paradigms In Human Memory,” and was presented as a clips show (usually an episode where the cast reminisces on past experiences that took place in previous episodes). Except… none of the clips they flashed back to appeared in any episode. Which means they took the time to film brand new flashback sequences.
That’s when I knew I was in love with this show’s mind. To even think about doing that made me stand up and cheer (or, you know, sit down and watch it more than once). You can tell the cast had fun with it, bouncing between locations near and far, wearing costumes and such.
It came out brilliantly. If you haven’t seen it, please take 22 minutes out of your life and watch it here. And then take 22 more, because there’s no way you’ll catch everything the first time through. Believe that. Enjoy.
